Tips for Britons Travelling to Dubai

The glittering Emirate of Dubai has plenty of attractions to suit visitors of varied tastes and means. However, like any other holiday destination in the world, Dubai also has its own share of quirks. So here are some tips to ensure that your holidays pass without any hitch.

UK nationals need not carry a visa before visiting the UAE. British citizens get a 30 day visa on arrival. The visa can be extended further by another thirty days for which an extension fee is payable. On the expiry of the extended thirty day period, one needs to leave the country. Not paying the extension fee makes one liable to a fine.

Although, Dubai is crammed full of hotels, do your research before hand to get the best possible deal.

Make sure that your travel insurance fully covers you for medical insurance. In the unfortunate event of requiring hospitalization and other medical attention, you are likely to spoil your Dubai visit by ending up with a massive bill.

For money changing, do not go for the street option even if the exchange rate is attractive. You might just end up with fraudulent notes and land in jail. Instead, try out one of the many British banks in Dubai. The local banks also provide the facility of cash withdrawal from ATMs.

While enjoying Dubai and its attractions, make sure that you do not hurt local sentiments. For instance, it is unadvisable to wear revealing clothing in public places. However, donning a bikini on the beach is quite passable.

As has been made clear by news reports, Dubai does not take too kindly to public display of physical affection between members of the opposite sex. So, be careful that you are not slapped with charges of public indecency.

Dubai also exercises zero tolerance on trafficking or consumption of drugs. In fact, even some prescription medicines have certain restrictions. It is best to check before hand in order to avoid unnecessary trouble.

Flavours of Dubai - Fashion

With Dubai now firmly entrenched in the mindscape of the swish set, its fashion scene has become more mature and cosmopolitan .Unlike the fashion industry in London and Paris; Dubai’s fashion industry does not have a distinct identity of its own. In Paris, you will witness the finest couture collections while in London you get to see open -minded creativity at its best visible in its funky street wear. These distinct identities lend a clear purpose and focus to the fashion weeks conducted in these places. However, in Dubai, the fashion scene is radically different as it caters to buyers from a cross section of cultures with vastly different tastes and preferences. Continue....................
